Canouan

Canouan, in the middle of St. Vincent's Grenadines, is an island of bumpy hills, spectacular views and exquisite water colors. Hikers will find hidden beaches. There are a few hundred inhabitants, two major hotels and the interesting new Canouan Resort Development in the northern part of Canouan.

Charlestown Bay is the main anchorage. As you sail in you will see three docks. The small southern one is used by a few smaller local sloops, in the center is a large ferry dock and to the north of this is the Tamarind Bay Resort dock. Some moorings are available for a fee or you can anchor anywhere in the bay except for the area close to the Tamarind Bay Resort Beach. This anchorage is pleasant but northeasterly winds with northerly swells can make it uncomfortable. The wind tends to get held up in the hills and then shoots down from the north in intense gusts.

Charlestown Bay is a new base for the Moorings charter company.

Canouan is a great island for lazing, hiking and snorkeling.
